Questions about becoming a paramedic?

Alright gonna be a senior this year. Wanting to become a paramedic, and have been reading and hearing a lot of information. So this is the basic gist of it, right?

1. Get CPR license (need it to be able to do emt-b
2. Pass an EMT-Basics class.
3. Pass an EMT-Intermediate class.
4. Pass an EMT-Paramedics class.

And then I can apply as a Paramedic?

Would it also be helpful to get experience in an ambulance while going to these classes? My dads a pastor of a church and there's a guy that is a paramedic in the church and he said I could come on some runs for experience.
How do you all know Im from Kentucky ?

Zach, here are links for your state EMS office. Kentucky is already making the changes for the new NREMT testing levels which no longer includes EMT-Intermediate.

This will be the new standards for education they will be following.

The agency for certification is the NREMT.

You will take a certification test after each level and will then apply to the state of Kentucky to work at that level.
You can work at each level while advancing to the next level. Some may even advise you to take college classes like Anatomy which will be more extensive than what EMS courses offer.

The state of Kentucky does not require 2 years to complete the Paramedic program but rather there is a time limit to complete your clinicals and course material once you start the program.
